Alena Matějka born 1966, 2005 Ph.D. study at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design, Prague in Czech Republic , 1997 M.A. in Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design, Prague, Czech Republic , in Glass Department led by Prof. Vladimír Kopecký. In 1995 2-month study in Glasgow School of Art, Ceramic Department, UK. In 2003 and 2005 5-month fellowship at The National Glass Centre and The
University of Sunderland with support of the Arts Council North East and Visiting Arts/British Council in London, there she made the biggest glass sculptures ever cast in U.K.
In 2009 she worked as instructor in Pilchuck Glass School in USA, where she gave a course "Aesthetics of Pattern". She had solo exhibitions in in the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Germany, Holland, Austria and USA. She got awards in 1996 - First Prize at the exhibition of art colleges Venezia Aperto Vetro '96, MuseoVetrario, Murano, Venice, Italy, in 1997 First Prize at the Young Glass (Michael Bang Award),
Glasmuseet, Ebeltoft, Denmark and 2000 František Wolf's Annual Award of the Czech Fund of Fine Arts, Czech Republic.
She is represented in many collections all over the world. Her main materials are stone and glass.
